Maijoor proposes industry levy to fund Esma

The chairman of the European Securities and Markets Authority is pushing for greater funding from market participants to ease the agency’s financial worries

Super regulator the European Securities and Markets Authority has proposed raising a levy on industry participants to help ease the agency's funding problems, as the watchdog prepares to take on a wider supervisory role.

Esma chaiman Steven Maijoor made the case for a levy when appearing at a hearing on financial supervision in the European Union in Brussels last week.
