Major follows former politicians in new banking role

John Major, a former Conservative UK Prime Minister, has added another directorship to his growing portfolio with the appointment as senior adviser to Credit Suisse First Boston.

The move into banking, which comes just weeks after the former Foreign Secretary and Chancellor of the Exchequer was made chairman of Carlyle Europe, marks a return for Major and follows a traditional pattern of politicians going into finance. Major worked for the UK based Standard Chartered bank for 14 years before entering parliament in 1979.
