Philip Manduca, head of Morley Fund Management's alternative investment unit, has left the firm after only three months to set up his own hedge fund and private equity investment firm.

His sudden departure after such a brief tenure is thought to be due to a disagreement over Morley's decision to concentrate on existing capabilities rather than make any further commitment to the alternative investment area.
