Mannesmann last night capitulated to a £113bn takeover by Vodafone AirTouch, reports the Financial Times.

It is the largest takeover of all time, ranking above AOL's recent £80bn deal with Time Warner, and will generate the higest adviser fees ever, at almost £600m.
