Former Calpers CIO joins US endowments manager

Mark Anson, who led the UK firm Hermes for two years in the 2000s, is 'returning to his roots'

The former chief investment officer at Californian state pension fund Calpers – who led the UK manager Hermes Investment Management for a period – has re-emerged as the new chief investment officer at Commonfund, which specialises in managing US college endowments.

Mark Anson, who was at Calpers until 2005 and led Hermes between 2006 and 2007, is currently in charge of investments at the Bass Family Office, managing the private assets of the family of the Texan businessman Robert Bass. He had also worked for a time at Oak Hill Capital Partners, a private equity firm founded by Bass.
