After a year of discussion and deliberation, one of the largest UK asset managers has appointed a new chief executive - an American with a strong background in academia and political science.

Mark Zinkula, was officially named as the head of Legal & General Investment Management yesterday, a year after his predecessor, Peter Chambers, announced his retirement.
