Smaller banks to claw back clients as revenues flatline

Stalling revenue streams on the horizon in 2011, but second tier banks look set to gain ground

Smaller banks look set to claw back market share lost over the financial crisis this year at the expense of their larger rivals, as revenues remain flat due to subdued trading conditions, one of the largest financial institutions has said.

A research note from Citigroup this week estimated that over the course of this year revenues earned by investment banks from capital market activity will be no higher than last year, based on current market conditions and seasonally adjusted predictions.
