Global headcount at Markit rose by a third during 2011, as the UK-based data provider continued its ambitious growth-by-acquisition strategy.

The firm's parent company, Markit Group Holdings, recorded a 14% rise in turnover to $762m for the 12 months ended December 31, according to documents filed at Companies house last week.
