Marsh Mac to axe 3,000 following Spitzer probe

Marsh & McLennan plans to axe 3,000 workers as it struggles to deal with the probe by Eliot Spitzer, New York attorney general, into its insurance broking business.

Marsh also reported a steep drop in third-quarter net income from $357m (€276m) to $21m, according to a report from Dow Jones Newswires. Revenue for the quarter increased 5% to $3bn.
