Marshall Wace drops merger arbitrage

Marshall Wace, the $7bn (€6bn) London hedge fund manager, has abandoned merger arbitrage as a strategy and asked Daryn Soards, its merger arbitrage manager, to leave.

A spokesman for the firm, which is one of Europe's 10 largest hedge fund managers, said: "Daryn Soards agreed to resign last week."
