Martin Currie, an Edinburgh-based specialist equity manager, has appointed two sector managers for its consumer and telecoms teams as it moves to strengthen its research division.

The firm said it had hired Toby McCullagh from Bear Stearns International in London, where he led the European software and IT services sectors for five years. In his new role, he will be analysing and recommending stocks in the consumer sector.
