Standard Life Aberdeen co-chief Martin Gilbert has bowed out from his role shepherding UK broadcaster Sky through its takeover saga, following the company’s sale to US telecoms giant Comcast.

Gilbert, who has been on Sky’s board since 2011 and stepped up to chair an “independent committee” formed to examine the rival bids for the broadcaster, will resign from the role with immediate effect, according to a statement from Sky on Tuesday.
