Schapiro cools global regulator talk

The former chair of the SEC believes US Congress would be uncomfortable ceding authority to an international body

Mary Schapiro, the former chair of US regulator the Securities and Exchange Commission, has rejected growing calls for a global financial services regulator to address increasing international regulatory tension.

Schapiro's comments come just days after David Wright, secretary general of regulatory body the International Organization of Securities Commissions, re-iterated his plea for stronger powers at a global level to settle cross-border disputes.
