BC Partners has hired former managing director Matthew Tooth from US private equity giant Blackstone, following the departure of one of the European buyout firm’s senior dealmakers last December.

Tooth will join BC as a senior partner and will start in September, according to a person familiar with the situation.

The appointment comes after Andrew Newington, formerly one of BC’s most senior partners, left the company in December following a disagreement over strategy
