Theresa May today confirmed she would be taking direct control of Brexit talks with the European Union — a move that critics said was “sidelining” her new Brexit secretary Dominic Raab less than two weeks after he took on the role.

“I will lead the negotiations with the European Union, with the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union deputising on my behalf,” May wrote in a ministerial statement.
