Mayhew's goal is an open road to wealth for the City

The Corporation's first priority is to stop central London choking on traffic

Walking from Finsbury Square to Aldersgate to visit Dame Judith Mayhew I stop to count the number of cars that get through the notorious bottleneck traffic lights at Moorgate. At worst it is about three and, at best, six cars that pass through the green light before it switches red again and the traffic goes back to gridlock.

Then, there are at least 10 lots of roadworks on my route, with traffic from London Wall down to Mayhew's Clifford Chance offices at the Museum of London, chock-a-block because of scaffolding clogging up the road. More gridlock; another reason why the City of London's transport system is close to cracking up and its workers and commuters near to break down.
