Challenger audit firm Mazars was fined £314,000 by the Financial Reporting Council for its audit of a local government authority’s 2019 financial statements.

The regulator said Mazars failed to comply with standards in its work and issued the proposed sanction, which can be reduced to £250,000 for co-operation and admissions. Mazars accepted the penalty.
