McCreevy resists calls for Mifid delay

Charlie McCreevy, the European Union's internal market commissioner, has refused to bow to pressure to extend the deadline for the introduction of radical new European trading rules and warned EU countries may face legal action if they fail to comply on November 1.

Pressure on McCreevy to delay the markets in financial instruments directive has mounted in recent months as it has emerged the majority of the 27 European Union countries will not be ready for its November live date.
