McCreevy to lay down law on clearing

Charlie McCreevy, the European internal market commissioner, will this week announce the European Commission's plans to reduce the €5bn ($6.4bn) cost of clearing and settlement in Europe.

McCreevy will report to the European Parliament on Tuesday the initial findings of an investigation into the structure and cost of clearing and settlement in Europe by the internal market and competition directorates of the European Commission.
