Salomon Smith Barney is believed to represent MCI WorldCom in its bid to acquire Orange, the UK's third largest mobile phone operator.

Mannesmann, Orange's parent, was forced to put the carrier up for sale following its takeover by Vodafone/Airtouch earlier this year.
