Irving Picard says he would probably be enjoying a well-deserved retirement had it not been for Bernie Madoff.

The 76-year-old lawyer, a partner at New York-based law firm BakerHostetler, has spent most of the last decade recovering money on behalf of the disgraced financier’s victims, who are estimated to have collectively lost more than $17bn in a Ponzi scheme overseen by Madoff.
