Memec high and dry as junk market shuts down

Market's upbeat mood could have proved the springboard to a winning strategy

Just two weeks after it spluttered back to life, bankers fear that Europe's junk bond market has shut down, probably for the remainder of the year.

A bond deal by Memec, the UK electronics group, was expected to be the last new issue to price this year. Memec was to sell euro and dollar denominated bonds with a 10-year maturity to investors on both sides of the Atlantic.
