Merrill Lynch is back among the front runners

The bulge-bracket bank is recovering after a disappointing 2000 performance

Merrill Lynch's European M&A business is back among the front runners in 2001 after a disappointing 2000.

The bank was ranked fifth in the first quarter of this year by Thomson Financial on European announced deals, a position which was consistent with the fifth position it took at the end of last year. And it is much better than the seventh position to which it had dropped at the half-year point.
