Permal, the world's largest fund of hedge funds manager with $18bn (€15bn) under management, has appointed Merrill Lynch to explore strategic options.

Permal is part of Worms & Cie, the French group with a market capitalisation of €2.4bn ($2.9bn) in which the Italian Agnelli family has a 53% stake.
