Merrill Lynch has pulled off a coup and bolstered its hedge fund services capabilities with the appointment of David Barrett, former head of capital introduction at rival Morgan Stanley.

Barrett, who has been with Morgan Stanley in a variety of roles for around 18 years, will join Merrill Lynch in April as head of capital raising origination.
