Merrill wins first round of hiring war

James Gorman, the former head of Merrill Lynch's private client broking business who took the same job at Morgan Stanley last month, has been temporarily barred from hiring his former colleagues.

The New York Post reports that the New York State supreme court has barred Gorman from "indirectly or directly" hiring any Merrill employees.
