MFR on UK pension funds to be scrapped

The UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, announced on Wednesday that the government will abolish the minimum funding requirement (MFR) on occupational pension funds.

Brown said that he accepted the recommendations of the Myners' report on UK institutional investment, published on Tuesday, which called for the MFR to be scrapped. He said: &quotTo promote long-term investment and to protect investors, we will abolish the minimum funding requirement.&quot
