MFS to help Fred Alger manage American Skandia assets

American Skandia Investment Services has withdrawn a mandate for Fred Alger Management, the US fund manager, to solely manage $835m (€907m) of assets after terrorist attacks in the US saw the loss of many of the firm's senior executives.

The US subsidiary of Skandia Insurance Company, the global financial services firm with $85bn in assets, has handed joint management of the funds temporarily to Massachusetts Financial Services Company (MFS).
