Millionaire numbers rocked by market downturn

The number of new millionaires fell 30% from 260,000 at end of March 2000 to 180,000 by year end.

According to the World Wealth Report 2001 published by Merrill Lynch and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, the decline is because of the downturn in worldwide equities after the first quarter in 2000.
