Minister hopeful economy will slowly reopen in March as vaccine rollout underway

Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi signalled 'a gradual reopening of the economy, if we continue to see good data'

The government is planning to gradually reopen England’s economy following the return of schools in the first week of March, vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi has said.

Should the NHS meet its target of vaccinating 15 million people by mid-February, schools are set to reopen on 8 March. This allows a delay of three weeks to give time for immunity to build up in those top at-risk groups who have received the jab.
