Misery grows for mutual funds as investors jump ship

Massachusetts State fires Putnam from $1.7bn pension plan mandate

Evidence has emerged that retail investors are abandoning investment firms caught up in the mutual fund scandal, as one of those firms, Putnam Investments, was fired by Massachusetts' state pension fund.

Investors withdrew at least $4bn (€3.4bn) from companies being investigated for illegal mutual fund trading during September. The numbers, from the Financial Research Corporation, indicate that investors are taking note of the probe.
