Misreporting costs Northern $10bn custody mandate

Northern Trust, the US custodian and asset manager, has been fired by the Illinois State Board of Investment after misreporting commissions it paid to minority-owned brokerages.

The Illinois board voted to end the 20-year relationship with Northern Trust, which provided custody and asset management services for the state's pension assets, and hand the $10.4bn (€8.4bn) custody mandate to rival State Street.
