The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the alma mater of some of the best brains in the securities industry, has decided to go into the venture capital business. It is launching a new internet incubator fund in France called Start-Up Avenue.

The incubator is one of the first such vehicles in France, and aims to capitalise on the surge in interest in the internet as the French catch up with the rest of Europe.
