More than £2bn in 100% Bounce Back Loans approved in first 24 hours

UK lenders, including Barclays and HSBC, received more than 130,000 applications on 4 May

The Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak said more than 69,000 Bounce Back Loans were approved during the first 24 hours of the scheme being opened on 4 May, as SMEs struggle through the nationwide lockdown due to the pandemic.

The loans, which amount to over £2bn in total, were launched by Sunak on 27 April and are 100% government backed.
