More than 78% of all people in the UK aged over 80 have now received their first dose, health secretary Matt Hancock has said, as “early signs” have emerged that lockdown measures are working.
The UK reported 592 new coronavirus-related deaths and 22,195 confirmed cases on 25 January, marking its lowest daily rise in coronavirus cases so far in 2021. The number of people with coronavirus fell from more than 30,000 new cases recorded a day earlier.
