Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners, the hedge fund arm of the US bank based in Philadelphia, has hired Salim Shariff as executive director and portfolio manager for its liquid markets portfolios encompassing the firm's fund of hedge funds strategy.

Shariff's role will include research and selection of hedge fund managers as well as advising on portfolio construction and performance monitoring.
