J Sainsbury, the UK supermarket group which has been the subject of heightened takeover speculation, is considering appointing Morgan Stanley as an additional adviser. The two are currently in talks.

An appointment would be Morgan Stanley's first as an M&A adviser to Sainsbury. The US investment bank would work alongside UBS, the supermarket group's long-standing adviser.
