Morgan Stanley has named strategy head Jim Rosenthal its chief operating officer, according to a memo to employees Tuesday morning.

Morgan chief executive and President James Gorman told employees that Rosenthal would assume additional responsibilities in the new role, including handling the New York investment bank's technology, human resources, marketing and communications.
