Morgan Stanley has named 184 new managing directors, with the number making the cut in Europe shrinking on a year earlier as the bank has focused on promoting more women to its upper ranks.

Just 20% of the new class came from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, down from 23% a year earlier as the balance of promotions shifted towards its home market in the Americas, according to a person familiar with the numbers.
