Morgan Stanley Dean Witter has hired Philip Lader, the new non-executive chairman of the UK advertising firm WPP Group and outgoing US ambassador to the UK, as a senior adviser to its investment banking division.

WPP has traditionally been much closer to Goldman Sachs and the link between the UK group and Morgan Stanley will be watched with interest as it is rare for companies to be close to both principal bulge bracket banks.
