Morgan Stanley retained its position as the top-ranked broker of European equities by value traded during the first half of 2013, seeing off competition from a resurgent Bank of America Merrill Lynch and UBS.

The rankings were based on data released this morning by information provider Markit, which it said represented an estimated 75% of all cash equity trading across European exchanges, alternative trading facilities and over-the counter markets during the first half of the year.
