MPs have called on Sajid Javid, the chancellor of the exchequer, to make public the shortlist of candidates to become the next Bank of England governor.

A group of 28 MPs, including from Labour, the Scottish National Party, the Liberal Democrats and smaller parties, have signed a letter arguing that the publication of the shortlist would allow Parliament to scrutinise the candidates.
