MPs vote 291 to 78 to pass new Covid-19 tier system

The vote comes as England ends its nationwide lockdown to control the spread of Covid-19 on 2 December

Lawmakers passed the new Covid-19 regional restrictions in England, clearing them for introduction on 2 December as the nation comes to the end of a three-week lockdown.

With 291 votes for the bill and 78 against, England will go back into a regional system, with areas classified as on either “medium”, “high” or “very high” Covid alert. London will be in Tier 2, or on “high” alert.
