MSCI keeps down the cost of its index changes

Passive fund managers believe index provider MSCI has protected their clients from significant losses by releasing details of its modified index more than a year before it scraps its old one.

Rick Lacaille, head of the structured products group at passive manager State Street Global Advisors, said: &quotMSCI has been reasonably clever about introducing the changes because it has clients a choice about when they switch over.&quot
