Myners joins criticism of institutional investors

City minister questions industry initiatives

Paul Myners, the minister for the City of London, has become the second high-profile figure in as many days to tell UK institutional investors that they need to take corporate governance more seriously.

Speaking to the National Association of Pension Funds' investment conference in Edinburgh this morning, Lord Myners said many of the largest institutional investors had failed in their duties to engage adequately with companies, although he said there was a growing consensus over the principles of good corporate governance.
