NAB calls in Lazard to consider future of UK banks

National Australia Bank, the embattled Australian financial group, has called in Lazard to consider strategic options for its four UK and Irish retail banks. The bank is expected to make a decision by November.

The bank's UK assets include Yorkshire Bank in England, Clydesdale Bank in Scotland, Northern Ireland's Northern Bank and the Irish Republic's National Irish Bank, all bought in the late 1980s.
