Nasdaq defeats rebel broker to go public

The Nasdaq Stock Market is set to become a private company by the end of September despite efforts by a small brokerage to block the plan.

Alan Davidson, president of the Independent Broker-Dealers Association, had argued that Nasdaq's conversion by its owner, the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), to a for-profit company should be delayed.
