Nasdaq hires SunGard executive as new chief

Nasdaq, the US exchange, has hired Robert Greifeld, an executive vice-president at financial IT firm SunGard, as its new chief executive, replacing Wick Simmons.

Simmons had said in December 2002 that he would retire this year after a successor had been found. At SunGard, Greifeld was responsible for the firm's sellside businesses and buyside transaction routeing businesses.
