Nasdaq deal in Lithuania signals settlement scramble

Reforms in the settlement market will create opportunities for exchanges and large custodians

Nasdaq OMX has carried out the full acquisition of Lithuania’s central securities depository as exchanges continue to scramble for post-trading and settlement assets.

Nasdaq OMX Helsinki - the US exchange operator's Finnish subsidiary - yesterday bought the outstanding 60% of the Lithuanian CSD shares from the Bank of Lithuania. The exchange already owned 40% of the CSD.
