Nasdaq OMX wins contract to operate securities information processor

SIP for Nasdaq-listed stocks had outage last year, forcing a 3-hour trading halt

As part of a winning bid to operate a key piece of infrastructure for the stock market, Nasdaq OMX has vowed to increase the system’s speed and resiliency, officials said Wednesday.

After a vote on Wednesday morning, Nasdaq was chosen to continue operating one of three so-called Securities Information Processors for the markets. The SIPs collect, consolidate and disseminate all price and trade data from the country's 11 stock exchanges.
